there was a Chinese old folk story mentioned that a God of Love ("yue lao" in Chinese) will tie a red thread to a guy's and a woman's leg and they will be a long lasting couple for their entire life. no matter they are enemies, rich or poor, handsome or ugly, they are meant to be together
